My name is Cheyenne Rain.

What was your first LARP?

My first larp ever was Dying Kingdoms in Southern California.

List: your top 5 favourite things to do at a LARP.

1. Make people laugh (my character is pure silliness, despite the serious picture.)

2. Play pranks on other characters

3. Play with my IG and OOG best friend, Byan (AKA “Fox”)

4. Eat the amazing food that everyone always cooks.

5. Go from silly to SCARY in .003 seconds

What was your favourite LARP moment in the last year? 

Me and my best friend IG (and OOG,) Fox, turned another character’s head into the head of a pigeon. She ran around pecking at people long after her head had changed back to normal.

Go on, brag. Tell us an awesome thing you did in a LARP once. 

A friend of mine, Paravahan, was in an eternal enchanted sleep, cast by a demon. It looked like the only two options were to find the demon and make him undo the sleep (unlikely) or another player had to cast off her mortality and become a demon herself. ALL DAY LONG the keeper of the tavern had been advertising his “genuine witch finger” for sale as a luck charm, which was dangling in the rafters above the sleeping friend. I have an ability that allows me to gain a skill that a person has by eating their flesh. I looked from Paravahan to the witch finger and back again. I reached up, grabbed it and took a bite. The skill I gained (by drawing from a deck of cards) was the skill needed to wake him up! I payed the tavern keeper of course.

Here. Have a soapbox to stand on. Tell us about an issue very close to you, related to being a lady who LARPs.

I find that, just like anywhere, there are many well-meaning but unfortunately misogynistic-minded men in my social group. It can be frustrating at times. It certainly isn’t as bad as it would be outside of such a generally liberal community, but I still have find myself correcting men often.

What are you most looking forward to in your LARP future? 

I’m actually starting a youtube channel about LARP! The whole explanation can be found here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOEJqnVYtD8And we’ll have a Facebook page up in the next day or so. Other than that, my friend and I are going as our glammed-up LARP characters to the Labyrinth of Jareth this year!

Finally, one bit of advice for LARPs?

For the individual larper: The best thing for sleeping in cold weather is thermal underwear under a fleece unicorn onesie. 

For all LARPS: If you’re the kind of larp that gives personal plot to characters, I highly appreciate it when I’m given plot as a brand new character, to integrate me into the story! It seems silly that so many larps make you wait and wait so you have to really try hard to make your mark in the group.
