now, i was rereading the comic and got a thought
is it me or these bugs not just simply infests but actually replacing the brain of the carrier itself? fish have a parasite that attaches itself to their tongues, which gradually dies off and the parasite replaces it to then start to feed on blood and mucus, maybe it's the same here? and IMO this parasite and the bugs you designed looks kinda the same to me🤔
If you're going off of what's already been said in the comic alone, I can see where you might consider this a possibility -- But the parasite does need the brain to exist and function in order to grow herself past her larval stage. She feeds off of adrenaline, which is a thing I've said a few times on this blog.
Not faulting you for never seeing when I've said that, however!

I got a theory from the latest page of the comic
In case of moral breakdown or any other overwhelming emotion, these bugs affect the carriers by partially erasing their memory so as not to worry about the disappearance of people.
This helps the symbiosis work better because the infected carrier travels without worrying about harming anyone, making the "hunt" easier + the normal behavior of the infected will not reveal anything abnormal about them.
And I think the bugs are not strong enough now to control the carrier constantly, that's why they carry out such actions.
Is my theory close enough lol?🤔
