You censor the word "f****t" but not "fuck?" That makes no sense.
Well, see, âfuckâ is a swear word that doesnât apply to anyone in particular, whereas the other word is a violent slur that specifically applies to a group Iâm not a part of. As someone who has many friends and loved ones who are a part of that group and are hurt by the violent slur, and someone who cares about the mental health and emotional well-being of others, I choose to prevent them from hearing it spoken aloud when possible by not saying it and prevent them from seeing it written out by censoring it on the rare occasion circumstances demand it.Â
The difference is that there are times and places where the word âfuckâ is okay to say, but thereâs really no time or place where itâs okay to say the homophobic slur beginning with the letter F. The word âfuckâ serves a purpose beyond hurting people. The other word doesnât.Â
