Unless it's absolutely necessary, taking your rabbit in the car is definitely too distressing for them. It's basically animal abuse. Be more careful next time.
Not that I need to justify myself to you, but it was a short trip meant to get him used to longer ones for when we have to travel about an hour's ride away. He's fine, he isn't scared of the carriers, we take breaks, he gets lots of treats, and he goes right back to normal when he's out. I'd argue forcing your rabbit into a long, stressful situation out of the blue is worse.
