Monokle dropped a stellar remix of Check Chuck by Composer back in May, which I only managed to stumble upon last week.  The original track by the French duo is a charming blend of indie pop and math rock, sporting a wealth of sunny harmonies.  But here Russian producer Monokle has dismantled the original and reconstructed it into a gorgeous ocean of synths and sighed vocals.  There are glimpses of Composer’s track, but little more than that-- the duo’s guitar riffs appear occasionally amidst a haze of synth washes, and vocals float in and out of the track breathlessly, the only recognizable phrase being an occasional interjection of “check chuck”.  Despite heavy processing, the vocals retain an organic quality, upon which Monokle builds numerous lazy synth runs.  The recurring synth drones never grow overwhelming as the song retains a shimmering, melodic nature.

The track immerses you in an effervescent pool of sound, lets you up for a breath before plunging you joyously under water once more.  It sits at five minutes long, yet after a play it feels impossible to tell whether you were listening for two or ten minutes.  Monokle has crafted possibly my favourite remix of the year so far and it is available as a part of Composer’s Check Chuck/Polar Bear EP Remixes which is out now.

Check Chuck, le morceau original du duo français Composer était déjà un tube électro-pop en puissance. Surfant ainsi sur le succès critique de leur premier album, le label In Finé sort cette semaine un EP de remixes de ce titre. Parmi eux, la version de Bretonlabs - LE groupe anglais du moment (et dont j'avais déjà parlé ici)-  est une vraie petite pépite. Loin de remixer le titre facilement, le collectif Bretonlabs a complètement déstructuré l'original jusqu'à modifier complètement la mélodie. On y retrouve bien sûr la patte du groupe, à base de grosses basses Dubstep, rythmiques hip hop et bidouillages électronique. Sortie le 26 mars sur toutes les bonnes plateformes.
