Lucifer had asked Phoebe to meet him for lunch. Somewhere they could sit off towards the back for some privacy. He’d picked some high end place to cater to her taste. He figured if it was somewhere she liked she would be more inclined to meet him. When he spotted her he waved her over but didn’t speak until she was sat down. Normally he would have pulled the chair out for her and greet her with a kiss on the cheek but he was beyond pissed at her. “Hello, Phoebe,” he says coldly. “I’m so glad you could meet me for lunch.”

In Lucifer’s mind the fact that he had Phoebe’s number and she agreed to meet up with him was a plus. He thought it was a good sign, but he also knew she was a game player. He was happy when she agreed to meet him at a high end club where you had to have your name on the list to get in. He made sure the bouncer knew to let her in. He was keeping an eye on the door from his booth so when she walked in he got up and greeted her. “So, you came,” he said, not completely surprised but a little bit. “What do you want to drink?”

Lucifer’s nostrils flared as he heavily exhaled from them. Phoebe was taking forever to respond and it was making him both nervous and angry. What did he expect from her though? Not much, that’s for sure. When she finally responded he almost wished she hadn’t. For the first time in he didn’t know how long he was being honest about his feelings sober. And typical Phoebe just laughed at him. Not harshly. He knew it was likely a humorless laugh but it still hurt. “Do I sound drunk? Do you smell alcohol on my breath? Am I fucking slurring my words, Phoebe?” He had to look away from her a moment and after staring at nothing he simply closed his eyes. “You’re ridiculous.” How could someone like her have him so fucked up and hopeless? “I’m not repeating myself.”

After his time with Lottie, Lucifer had bolted to the bathroom to fix his hair and freshen up. As far as he knew no one spotted them. After he was certain his hair looked fine he walked out of the bathroom only to see Phoebe outside of it. “Uh, hi. Were you following me?” He thought it was strange she was waiting outside of the restroom. He looked her outfit up and down. “That’s quite the outfit you’re wearing. Or lack of, I should say.”

“We should probably talk,” Lucifer said. He’d asked Phoebe to come over. He barely remembered their last encounter and when he’d woken the next morning she was already gone. He hadn’t seen or spoke to her in some time. He vaguely remembered some things he told her but not everything. He was hoping he hadn’t said anything he would regret. “That night...a few weeks ago. It’s a blur for me. Was it for you?” He remembered waking up in the morning and seeing the shattered bottle from what he was drinking. “I don’t think it was a good one.”

After their recent talk Lucifer had seen Phoebe in a completely different light. She seemed so much more...mature. It was just nice to know that the two could sit down together and talk. Maybe it just won’t take six months for them to do it next time. Lucifer hoped at least. He could handle a deep conversation but he was not good at starting them. Still, with their new agreement and Phoebe on his arm as they entered the ball he felt...happy. Normally he was just content with Phoebe and never fully satisfied but he felt like he was for the first time in a long time with her. Lucifer does love her. That much is true. That’s what got them in this whole mess anyways. He was trying not to think of the details of it all and just enjoy her company. 

“Do you want something to drink?” Lucifer asked Phoebe as he walked towards the bar with her. “I’m having some wine. Champagne perhaps?” As if on cue someone on waitstaff walked by with a tray of champagne flutes. Lucifer dropped Phoebe’s hand and grabbed two of them, handing one to her. “Cheers,” he said before clinking his glass against hers and taking a sip. “Am I going to het a New Year’s kiss?” he asked, half teasing. He knew she would likely say something like ‘only if you behave’ or some other bullshit. It was fine though. Lucifer was going to actually try. Trying was the least he could do, right? Especially considering this is something he wanted first. 

Halloween was over and Autumn was in full blast now. Well, at least as far as the weather went. It seemed that Walt Grove was skipping a holiday and going straight to the next one with their decorations. Wreaths and red and green lights strung on every lamp post downtown. Snowmen had yet to make an appearance though. It’s not that Lucifer hated the winter holidays, he just thought that people got overzealous and started celebrating far too earlier. Whatever floats their boat, or whatever, he thought to himself. He was meeting Phoebe for coffee. Peppermint Mochas seemed to be the new thing and pumpkin spice seemed to be the old. Sighing, he walked into the coffee shop that also was already decorated. When he spotted Phoebe he slumped into the chair across from her. “Why the hell is this town so hellbent on celebrating Christmas? It’s literally only November.”

Lucifer had been fucked up in more ways than one the last few times he’d seen Phoebe. It wasn’t always alcohol induced but emotional. He knew he fucked up telling her he loved her and he almost wished he hadn’t. Still, that didn’t keep him away from her. He couldn’t help it. She was like a drug and he was addicted. One taste and he wanted more. He’d gone to Wonderland to watch her sing for the night. The club was not his cup of tea really, but he’d been there before. Plus, they had a casino downstairs so he could always go escape there for a while if he got bored. The thing was though, despite how long he’d been there that night he didn’t grow bored. Lucifer was enamored by Phoebe’s voice and technique that he found himself trapped like a sailor by a sea siren. When she finally was finished with her set he was quick to greet her. “Hi,” he said. “You sounded great tonight.” He wasn’t sure what else to say. What was there left to say? “Are you done? I thought we could....hang out?”
