Claude hadn’t dated many people in his life, but the most significant relationship he’d ever had happened to be with one Ken Carson. He had his strategies of getting around seeing Ken, figuring out where he usually was at the Rainbow Room and avoiding the hell out of it. At some point, he was bound to be unlucky, and tonight just happened to be it. Claude had decided to go out for the night, knowing that Ken usually wasn’t there on a Thursday night, but there he was, standing between Claude and the restroom. All he wanted to do was turn around and bolt, but they had already locked eyes, and it was too late. He had to be the bigger person, to pretend like this didn’t affect him when Claude knew that he would be going back to the bar and taking a shot after this. Not that their breakup had been the worst he’d experienced, but it was definitely strange, seeing him for the first time.  “Kenneth,” he said curtly as he approached the older man. “I believe you’re in the way of the path to the restroom.”

Atta let out a laugh at his sudden stroke of feminism, shaking her head at herself. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean that, I’m drunk, she admitted, holding up her wine glass in her hand. She wasn’t used to candid conversations like these, but she was growing more fond of Ken the more she spoke to him. “Oh, you don’t have to worry about offending me, you’ve hardly done that. I just admire how ... I guess, free you are with who you are and how you express yourself. It’s really inspiring, actually. I’ve never felt like I could really do that with my job, and I’m sure Kit has probably felt the same.” She didn’t mean to make assumptions about her fiance in front of one of his friends, but Ken seemed not only harmless, but like he wanted to help her understand who Kit really was. “Can I ask, what happened with him and the other girl? The blonde? I guess he has a type. He won’t really talk about it, but I also haven’t asked, so I guess that’s on me. How are you supposed to ask about something like that, though? Like, how’s the girl you turned down to marry me instead?”
