The summer sun was shining through the leaves, casting a green light over the small figure laying on the grass under the tree. 

The 6 year old girl was chewing the straw from an ear of grain. She was in the middle of an apple tree's orchard But here and there grew sweet cherries trees, pear trees. The ground was radiating heath where the sun was reaching not blocked by the leaves.

"Julia! Obiad!" Suddenly her grandmother came calling.

The girl stood up brushing her green dress, stained with grass and dirt, her braided hairs were a mess and she had scratched all over her knees and hands. 

"Idę!!" she shouted back. She rubbed her nose and run toward the table placed in the middle of the orchard. Her aunts and grandmother were loitering over the table, placing the plates, utensils, glasses and platters with food. Dinner for over 20 people was a really big deal. Her cousins were trying to steal from the plates but their mothers would swat their hands and look very angry at them.

The smell of food had her salivating.

"Julia! Idź wpierw umyj ręce! Dziewczyno, jak ty wyglądasz?!" her grandmother huffed, placing her hands on her hips. "Jak fleja!"

The little girl giggled, "Dobrze babciu."

Suddenly she squealed lifted up by her father, who played airplane with her. Both laughed and tried to look apologetic when her grandmother scoffed at them again but failed.
