It was late February and almost a month had passed since Lily became an official adult in the wizarding world. The more she thought about it, the more scary and exciting it became...and the more she realized she’d be able to do magic outside of school. Which got her thinking about Petunia. Despite their fights and what she said sometimes, she really did love her sister. But if she did magic around the house, Tuney would get upset. So, after a month of arguing with herself, she decided she would be moving into a flat for the summer. Now all she needed was a flatmate.

Lily sat herself next to Marlene on the soda in the common room, grinning mischievously. “Wanna cause some trouble with me this summer?” 

“Are you drunk?” Marlene seemed amused. 

Lily wasn’t, stumbling up from her chair and shaking her head violently. “M’not drunk. Just tipsy,” she explained as if it were completely obvious. Lily grinned, taking Marly’s hand and tugging her to the booth in The Three Broomsticks. She wasn’t seventeen yet, but she’d been dying to try wizard alcohol. So, when the bartender asked what she’d like, she took him up on the offer. 

Sure, it wasn’t right. Or very prefect-like of her…but sometimes you’ve just got to break a few rules. Besides, it wasn’t like Marlene had never broken the rules, or half of Gryffindor hadn’t. Lily found it was hard to hold back her giggles under the influence of fire-whiskey. It tasted really good, and perhaps she had drank it a bit too quickly. Oh well, too late now.

“I broke the rules,” Lily whispered to her friend, her nose crinkling with giggles. “Fire-whiskey is really good!”
