World Building Prompt #197
The Crystal Historic Main Street St. Charles, Missouri August 21, 2021
I first spotted this quartz cluster in the window of a zen shop on July 30 and fell in love with it, but it was later in the afternoon and they were closed. When we went back the next time, I checked the price and it was $60, so naturally I hesitated. We went on with our shopping and with our trip in general, but I kept thinking about this crystal. I wanted it so badly. Ari was working remotely during the week and the shop was closed by the time we could get back over there, and we had so much other stuff to do on the weekends, it just kept getting put off. I looked up what I thought was this shop on Google to find out their hours and we went back one morning, planning to be there when they opened, but we waited and waited and they never opened. I looked them up on Facebook and even called the owner and found out the business I looked up on Google was the one that had been there previously. The current shop did not have a sign hanging above the door like the rest of the ones on Main Street did, so there was some confusion over what the name of the business even was. I even broke down into tears when we went back a second time to find them closed when we thought they were supposed to be open. It sat there on the shelf with just a thin pane of glass between us, so close, yet so far away. I was so afraid someone was going to buy the crystal before I could get back in there and we were running out of time before we had to go back to Alabama. I finally tracked down the actual name of the business and contacted the owner to find out when their actual hours were, and finally on August 21, we went back for what was to be our last chance. The street was closed for over a quarter of a mile from the shop because a festival was going on. There were so many people there, parking was not an option, so Ari dropped me off as close as we could get and I waded through throngs of unmasked festival goers to get there. I was so scared the crystal would be gone. But there it was, still perched in the window, waiting for me. After tax, I paid $65 for it, but it was worth it. I love it!
