Information changes what you know, it changes what you believe. Knowing what you know and then knowing it to be true, changes your perspective. Maybe I was too young to know then, unable to process what i’ve come to learn. Maybe the knowledge was always there, hidden in the crevices of my cranium. Blocked out by my brain because I wasn’t in a position to process anybody’s trauma but my own. You are the strongest of women. I couldn’t have survived the things that you stomached. I wouldn’t be half the woman that you are knowing what you know, having endured what you endured. I am barely who I am, knowing what I know about myself. I think I always knew, there was something about you. Something I wanted to emulate, you were angry but with reason. You were resilient but with intent. Too young to understand the magnitude of what you went through but I knew you radiated strength, it poured off of you in waves. Your energy always heavy, face always slightly scowled. Hate and disgust brewed inside you but never overtook you. You were still so very you. Hardened but never cold. Shaped by things outside of your control but never molded into anything other than. You kept a piece of you no matter how much the world dared to take from you. I am so thankful that you survived, and I hope you know that you never have to hide or feel shame. The universe will repay all things to those that hurt you and it will also repay you for staring adversity in the face and against all odds, making a life for yourself; for your daughter and never following the path that was laid for us. You are the reason surviving is important, you are the embodiment of what doesn’t break you, makes you. I’m sure its still a battle to be who you are, but everyday you wake up and face the world head on, you win. THANK YOU.
