It's #LucyDay! Lucy van Pelt made her debut 68 years ago today in a Peanuts strip published on March 3, 1952. Charles Schulz introduced her as a wide-eyed baby with a penchant for mischief but soon began to draw her as the familiar fussbudget we know today. Notorious for her crabby and bossy nature, Lucy occasionally shows a softer side, especially in the presence of Schroeder. Reposted from @schulzmuseum Today we commemorate the 20th anniversary of the final Peanuts Sunday strip which appeared in newspapers around the world on February 13, 2000, the day after Charles Schulz passed away at his Santa Rosa home. The comic strip did in fact outlive him, if only by a day, fulfilling Schulz's wish. His legacy lives on through his fans and the love of Peanuts, making it new to each successive generation.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ The letter reads, "Dear Friends, I have been fortunate to draw Charlie Brown and his friends for almost 50 years. It has been the fulfillment of my childhood ambition. Unfortunately, I am no longer able to maintain the schedule demanded by a daily comic strip. My family does not wish Peanuts to be continued by anyone else, therefore I am announcing my retirement. I have been grateful over the years for the loyalty of our editors and the wonderful support and love expressed to me by fans of the comic strip.
