I was an early teen during the 80s Satanic panic that prevailed through the 90s. The 60s & 70s had one of their own too. It seems to come in waves. There was a great fear instilled in the public during that time. It seemed danger was lurking around every corner in the shape of drugs, bombs, strangers, AIDS, & drunk drivers. On top of all this, I was also raised with the fear of god. Discipline and abiding by the rules was the only thing that would keep me safe. Religious ideas seem to become more extreme when they are in battle with an opposing force of equal enthusiasm. That said, some of the activities we werenβt allowed to partake in included, Halloween (unless we dressed as a biblical character) and New Yearβs Eve celebrations (since we were inside chapel praying through the midnight hour as children played outside). We also couldnβt vacation to Las Vegas because, well, itβs the city of sin and my father said it was basically a modern day Sodom & Gomorrah. The most painful exclusion was Disneyland. Iβve never been to any Disney parks and this is the main reason Iβm such a dysfunctional adult π This year @jkalning and I are going to try to visit the happiest place on earth and Iβll report back to you if thatβs true. I completed this piece a couple of days ago and am still vacillating between a couple of titles for it. Iβll be listing prints of this in two sizes tomorrow at 12pm PST β° for those who want a piece of this pie. Scroll through to see some of the process. And see the βwho wore it best imageβ to see a bit of my inspiration. I wish I had done more video but my time has been severely limited. Iβll post more of the details of this image for you tomorrow.
