New Who Doctorās on an honesty & Openness scale
9: Generally honest, but not really open. Never lies to Rose and kind of shares in random bunches. Never says he is something he isnāt or nearly over hides things after he letās rose in End of The World. What you see is generally what you get with him, heās impossible and saves the day but rose sees him break down with the auton mind(rose) pretty early and in Boom Town, he never contradicts what Blon says. Doesnāt want others to see how he feels but less of a game player.Ā
7/10 Honesty, 5/10 Openness
10: Not a liar with rose, but stuffs down the darkness.Ā Liar liar to Martha, she calls him out like a boss (Gridlock), getās him to open up when she puts her foot down. He doesn't let her in, she has to see it for herself and then call him on it.Ā
Donna, he canāt be totally closed off cus she saw him at his worst, but still not open and she calls him on it. So not totally dishonest but still trying to hide.Ā (Runaway Bride/Doctorās Daughter).
Usually lies by omission but some straight-up lies, but will trauma dump.Ā Heās playing a game of the reckless dashing hero with the all-powerful yet powerless broken survivor. Doesnāt let others see that quite a bit. Hides parent side a lot and an older wiser side that we know he can have.
11: Heās got theĀ ārule one the doctor liesā but there is something honest in his dishonesty? Amy knows that he is this kind of god but that he doesnāt tell her everything (Flesh & Stone), knows he is playing a game around her. He tells her that yeah I don'tā tell you everything but trust me cuz Iām trying to get it. in God Complex we also see him tell her to stop having the allusions and that heās really just being vain in his old age.
River knows and accepts it. Most liar level to Clara about knowing her past lives, but she knows he's a liar and heās like yup I be lying (Journey to the centre of the TARDIS) and in Day of The Doctor Clara comments on how he talks about the Time War with her and her is able to ground him.Ā
Itās a lot like his personality in general, incredibly young and old at once, goofy with this bitterness, silly but deadly. That paradox is really on display, but to some extent he letās more people in on the game?Ā
4/10 Honesty, 7/10 Openness
12: Generally pretty honesty Clara already knew the darkness in him and he asks her for info on him. They trade secrets in season 8 with her and Danny (caretaker) and when he manipulates the situations (Mummy on the orient express/Kill The Moon). Doesnāt really play with her after that maybe learning a lesson, and learns about who he is.Ā And is a lot more chatty about the past overall? River knows about him in her episodes, and then Nardole knows a version and he never really lie straight up to him. He talks more about the past with Bill, and while he doesnāt want to let her know what he's seen, he doesnāt lie to her in Thin Ice when she asks him if heās killed people before. Biggest lie moment is to protect his feelings of vulnerability with being blind.Ā
Not playing a game really, can control others
6/10 Honesty, 6/10 Openness
13: Never talks about anything and lies by omission only straight-up lying a few times. Fam calls her out on it and she says like the bare minimum to get by. They still know jack about her as a person (Spyfall pt 2). The only time she like owns up his to say like nah bro you donāt know me, and then they like yeah we do. Itās sweet but they are wrong. (Fugitive of The Judon) Been weeks in-universe and IRL and they still donāt know Galifrey has burned.Ā
5/10 honesty, 3/10 openness
[this is half serious half crack]
