Honey & Butter Macarons, 2930 Bristol St., Costa Mesa, CA 92626
Honey & Butter makes the cutest, most creative macarons that I’ve ever seen, so it’s no surprise that their original location at the Lab Anti-Mall, is equally adorable. The shop is inside a shiny silver Airstream trailer. There are some chairs with macaron pillows outside. Inside, they have plants, Tsum Tsums, and more cute pillows.
H&B are known for their themed character macarons. You can find the theme by following their Instagram account, @honeyandbutter. The themed macarons tend to sell out fast. They also have classic round macarons ($2) each. Flavors may change but during my visit they had sea salted caramel, vanilla bean, cookie butter, French Toast crunch, milk & honey, enhanted berries (raspberry, strawberry, blackcurrant buttercream), Fruity Pebbles, honey lavender, tiramisu, and strawberry lemonade. Each one is individually wrapped. They make everything from scratch.
* Milk & Honey: The honey flavor was subtle. I enjoyed the flavor of the creamy buttercream. The macaron was soft and chewy, but it fell apart.
* Enchanted Berries ($4, bear shaped): There was a lot of berry flavor in the creamy berry buttercream. It was fresh and flavorful. The macaron was a bit chalky though.
* Vanilla Bean: This macaron also fell apart easily and was softer than I’m used to. The buttercream had vanilla bean specks and a good creaminess.
The service was super nice. I received a free vanilla bean macaron and a free bottled water (not sure why, because I said it was my first visit?). Macarons should be kept refrigerated. They taste as good as they look.
