They keep the Eustass-ya in the anime. I wish they did in the manga. So much of Law’s personality seems to be lost without it. Anyhoo.

“We” here being Kin’emon and his fellow retainers I think. Like, yeah, he’s bluffing, Raizo’s critical, Denjiro’s simping.

Law might be a grumpy captain who doesn’t want the samurai on his submarine, but he lets Kin’emon save face by letting him claim credit for his plan (it does incorporate Kin’s original plan).

I know it’s played for laughs, but there’s enough time for Law to correct him, or blow a gasket, and he just doesn’t. Although he might not hear the second part of Kin’emon going over the plan, as it seems he’s in the sub. I’m not sure.

But, even without it, it goes to show that even if Law claims his submarine is not a garrison, it is a big yellow taxi, like the Joni Mitchell song.

And, now that we know that he’s invested in the poneglyphs too, maybe he wanted to keep in good with the minks and samurai who have connections to them.

From chapter 975 and episode 981 below after Kin’emon revealed his original plan, before Law stepped in:
