Underrated Funny Dynamic:
Law had a very normal childhood up until it all went to actual hell. Like, he had two parents with regular jobs that helped people. He went to school and had town festivals and a full on house and stuff. Extremely middle-class life.
Luffy (and most of the Strawhats) have absolutely NO reference as to what a normal life is like and probably reinforce this with each other all the time.
All this to say the Heart Pirates overhear the Strawhats talking about what they consider the “bad parts” of their backstories and reminiscing their “good parts” because—to a sane person—all of their backstory sounds atrocious.
