One Piece Chapter 918 Review
The rich get richer, but when Luffy is around, it doesn’t apply. He redefined the phrase, “No one messes with my friends and gets away with it.” Without any hesitation and see no consequences, he knocked Holdem out with one strike. Whether we do get Sabaody 2.0 out of this or not, it’s still worth it. If I didn’t know this arc takes place in a country, I would have thought it is almost over, because the chapter brought in a good feel moment that the series knows best.
Holdem’s defeat is treated like a moment that impacted the world; to be realistic, Wano Country itself. It sort of remind me of that epic punch from Luffy to Celestial Dragon, so you can imagine how rewarding it feels to see it happening here. Speed is shocked to see Holdem defeated by one hit. We do have a series based on one-hit win, so she must be new to the concept.
There’s a hilarious scene that finally takes advantage of the absurd designs of Beasts Pirates. Luffy was running to escape, but he finds a horse, or so he thinks. You guessed it, he finds Speed and hops on like he’s hugging her. This could have gone more awkward, but he notice Speed isn’t a horse; well a complete horse. The best part is Luffy ask Tama to make dango, treating Speed like a horse. It supposed to be insulting, but it actually works as she runs out like a trained horse. Luffy’s logic actually favors him this time. No wonder we needed to know Speed’s character last time, especially the horse’s smile.
It’s charming to see Luffy and Tama escaping together like siblings. It helped by the reflection of Ace, since Tama sees Luffy similar. It does make me wonder if Luffy will say the same thing as Ace by the end of the arc. She’s still a kid, so I don’t know if she will take part of the journey. The later scene could prove my thoughts further, but we will get to that soon. Whatever the case may be, she has grown attracted to Luffy, even if he is oblivious.
Law versus Hawkins was another part that grasped my interest. Much like Luffy and Zoro versus Hawkins, it was cut short (no pun intended), but for what it was, it was pretty cool. Hawkins proves that he’s smarter than your average enemy for he has identified the mysterious masked man as Law, and that’s bad news. He can inform Shogun or Kaido about the alliance, so hell can arrive earlier. Actually, it can arrive even earlier than that. According to Law, Luffy and others must not beat up Holdem or else they’re doomed. Zoro is his trustworthy surveillance, so everything should be fine…
…I laughed for a minute.
As short it is, the action is pretty cool. I like Law uses Chambres to swap places and slashes Hawkins in a blink of an eye. Hawkins swaps the effect and given to his man the slash. Thank God for him, it wasn’t a real slice; otherwise, Seinen genre, here we come. In fact, it gets crazier when Hawkins tries to stab Law through the mask, but he dodges and in one slash, he cuts down every henchmen. That was badass. If it was the real cut, this would have been the bloodiest death scene yet. Thank God for Star Wars’ logic.
Law was under impression that Luffy and others have yet to be seen or caught in doing wrongful acts. Well, I’m afraid he’s in for some bad news. Hawkins has the privilege to greet him to the country. That’s nice of him. Interesting that they never interact before. Now comes with bad news. Hawkins knows Luffy is here. Oops. He knows those two formed an alliance. Whoops. At least Luffy didn’t do the worst case scenario. You got to love timing because the breaking news happens as they were fighting, and yes, Holdem is out by yours truly, Luffy. Oh and Jack was informed about it. Best day ever for Law! Don’t worry; it gets better.
Just before Law thinks, “I’m going to beat those bastards to the pulp,” a ship with crap load of food appears out of nowhere with Zoro yelling at pedestrians to get out of the way. Timing is amazing. Seriously, this could have been bloody when the ship ran over a guy with only upper torso. If they were dead, I would say that’s pretty messed up. I like how Zoro is so casual about everything, even with Law on board, pissed as hell, he just goes like, ‘Oh hey, guy…” Law is lashing out everything and Zoro is just there staring like, “…” Funny stuff.
They are undoubtedly in trouble, but they don’t mind. They did it for the people. That’s One Piece for you. Just before citizens at Okobore Town lose all hopes, Santa Claus arrives early to town. I got to say, it was grim to see the obvious implication of an attempted family’s suicide. I can imagine being omitted in the anime. A hell of a reminder of this manga still contain dark content. Anyway, it leaves a good feel moment with everyone rejoicing and finally got the taste of happiness.
The bad guys were trying to stop the fuss, but Luffy slams them with a huge bucket of water. That was smart. I don’t know if I can say the same thing for the next part. Luffy must have the grandest kintama to tell everyone if anyone ask, Luffytaro is the guy. He’s not even hiding anymore. Law is pretty much done on trying to fight; who can blame him. It doesn’t matter to Luffy; he just wanted pay back with incredible interest.
Going back to the discussion about Tama, Luffy reminds her that the food today is only today, but he will make sure it can be every day. He worded very similar to Ace’s, which got her teary. Luffy must have never seen tears with joy, so he thought he made her sad. Of course, she’s just overwhelmed with emotions. Not sure where we go from there, but it is fine to end it here if Oda chooses to do so. It’s rather sweet. It feels like the arc is ending, but realistically, it’s a phase coming to an end.
It is one bold claim to say he will make the country great again; look how America is dealing with now. Ahem. Zoro apparently resume his brain process, saying Luffy is being reckless and he must be ready to pay the consequences. He is the last person to say crap like this. Law’s reaction got me laughing. The arc is obviously not ending as the cliffhanger gears up for a serious portion.
Their next destination is meet the Ghosts of the Wano Country. Zoro actually went there before and it startled him. That would explain how he arrived to the beach before meeting Luffy. When they say Ghosts, I don’t know they really mean it, but it’s definitely a graveyard. In this world, I wouldn’t be surprised if a ghost does pop up. It’s going to get really interesting here. Thankfully, no break. For now.
This was an amusing chapter to conclude one part of the arc. There were plenty of comical segments and inserts that had me laughing. The action was fun while lasted; hoping a full course of action is coming soon. The art is charming with comical imagery and good feel atmosphere. You got to like how the chapter’s title compares to Chapter 913. The ending leaves room for a more serious aspect that will likely start kicking the arc into high gear. Enough of fun stuff, time to get serious.
This scene came to mind when I was reading the new chapter or One Piece xD I could not not draw it!
A couple of notes about the latest chapter:
1) Luffy is really acting like an emperor and a future pirate king! I adored him all the chapter, he has grown a lot.
2) Law is great, and seeing him suffering the effects of the Strawhats shenanigans never gets old!
3) I miss the rest of the crew. Oda where are them?
4) The chapter got mega dark at one point. Maybe y'all noticed that panel I'm talking about.
5) And that end... One thing I love about the One Piece's fandom is the ability to come up with the craziest theories. Oh boy this week's gonna be fun!
YOOOOOOOOO HOLD UP
I just remembered these panels
what if they’re really dead and they’re actually ghosts??
I know I’m reaching here and there’s no way but ... that panel of momonosuke talking about roger is kind of ???? why would he say such a thing??

This new chapter...
I love Luffy, Zoro, Tama, Law and Ace so much
So the reason why Mononuske met Roger was that he‘s actually a ghost and dead? Or is it something the new Shogun set up with Kaido just to pretend they all died? So confused now. Tama ist such a bean, I‘m dying because of her cuteness. Luffy you precious boy. 😭😍 At that point I don‘t even know why Law was planning anything. Lol Knowing Luffy he should be better than this hahah. I can‘t believe he trusted Zoro with his plan. 😂😂😂
Chapter 918
Somebody who doesn’t know the context explain why this boy is so horrified by fresh cream
