These two pages destroyed me. Twilight has been established since very early to be a liar. As a spy he has to lie to others around him to maintain his cover. Anya has acknowledged that about him, calling him a "cool liar". However the other facet is that Twilight also lies to himself and in these pages he's being blatantly called out on it. Here he is on the cusp of perceiving his dream: a world where children can smile and play without worries. Achieving that could potentially bring a sense of peace to his traumatic childhood. However it's very different to do dark things so that in a better world children would be able to smile, and being directly responsible for the smile of one specific child; your child. Twilight now lies not only to others, but also to himself, to avoid confronting that vulnerable side of him that he never quite managed to squash. For a man with no identity, his ideology is shaped by his past and his experiences. Operation Strix might have started out as a mission like any other, but as time has gone on, this little family he formed, has left their mark on him. And that's something that sooner or later he'll have to come to terms with on his own.
