There are many things to be grateful to the rain for. Healthy crops, a break from the summer heat, an excuse to stay indoors, but the rain doesn’t always bring happiness. From the shallow depths of temporary ponds created by the downpour, a monster lies in wait. A slight humming comes from the pond until you get close. Once you’re in earshot, the monster from within listens for a glimpse of familiarity. If you unwittingly give that, you could be approached. Witnesses describe long dark hair in front of the eyes and a shy demeanor. Coming out of the pond they are looking for things, more specifically jewelry and you’d regret it if you didn’t just hand yours over. Hand it over and pray for the sunshine.
