wait what did u write in ur research paper?? this is so interesting
i’m a psychology major and had a course on sustainability so i had to incorporate the two, so i wrote about an idea in this book we had to read by richard louv. he had a concept called nature deficit disorder and it isn’t a real diagnosis but it is an interesting concept. the idea behind it is that nature is a natural remedy to a lot of mental disorders and learning disorders possibly, not a cure but a treatment of sorts.
i wrote about it because it’s something most people can afford to some degree (since even just laying in the grass in your backyard listening to the birds counts) and is something that can and should be incorporated into the lives of children esp to try and help with their abilities to focus on the classroom by introducing nature into the school day by more outdoor field trips, school gardens etc.
most of my paper was about incorporating it to a degree into schools which is important to me with how the school system is changing and kids are giving less opportunities in the classroom to just have fun even though it’s a way more natural way for kids to learn concepts, especially like science when they have that hands on experience with it outdoors and getting to see the world in action.
the idea is really interesting to me and i think legitimate because most people experience this thing, a connection to places of nature and there’s usually a calming sensation from it. you said in your tags i think that it was the sea for you and for me as well, i was raised by the beach and whenever i want to clear my head just standing by the water and hearing the waves or better yet getting to go swimming in them just has a profound impact. almost anyone you ask pretty much could come up with some similar place that is meaningful to them and a lot of times there is something nature based about it.
