So my individual community involvement project was to volunteer at a local hippotherapy farm. I must say that my time spent at this farm has been the most amazing thing I have done with my life so far. Getting to see the therapists working with the kids on the horses is awesome. Just seeing the way the movement of the horse stimulates their neurological functions and allows them to learn and heal better is astounding. And it’s all so precise. Changing one little thing, like turning them around to face backwards while on the horse, is like starting everything over from scratch. Working with the horses is fun enough as it is. I grew up on a farm with my own horses, so it’s like being back home all over again. Only better. This facility is so nice and they have a TON of horses. All different breeds. It’s more like Heaven than home. I absolutely love it. I actually chose to quit my paying job up here and continue volunteering for the farm beyond the extents of the project. This place is intended to be therapeutic for the clients, but I think it’s serving as therapy for me as well.
