Today I'd like to talk about change patterns on web pages. As you may know, wobserver.com can show the change chart of a web page. This is done by clicking on this icon:
As a result, the chart for the corresponding web page pops up. If you are monitoring several pages with wobserver.com, you will soon notice that web pages have got different change patterns.
For example kernel.org has the following pattern:
The corresponding job monitors only the current kernel version, defined by area detection. You can see from the chart above, that exactly one word changes.
monitors new versions of Flash Player. You see changes 1-2 times a month.
Another chart to talk about is this one:
The job monitors the news page of the Debian Linux project. You see regular changes with more news up to the middle of August, then afterwards smaller changes.
Completely different are charts of major news sites:
The major news pages show 2000 to 5000 changed word by visit, they serve a lot of articles. A bit different is Hacker News with fewer word changes but still regular:
Finally an interesting chart is this one at Entrepreneur.com:
In the second half of August, the change volume suddenly increases from ~500 words daily changes before and then increasing regularly to 2000 words.
Interesting - isn't it? Feel free to make your comparisons and inform me at twitter.com/wobservercom.
