Non-American tumblr and perhaps even Coaster Enthusiast tumblr: i have a question
i was you know. on wikipedia. typical internet browsing. but i was on the page for swing rides. talks about chair-o-planes and wave swingers. there was something i hadn't noticed before
it mentioned that the rides are sometimes called "calcinculo" in italian. mentioned something about "catching a tail", which i didnt understand. well, i understood the part about getting a free ride if you caught it. cool, makes sense, its like a brass ring at the carousel. but it never elaborated on that. i'd never heard it before in my god damn life. if you search "calcinculo" on youtube you get some videos of it, which makes it start to make sense. you get similar if you search "pouss pouss". i also notice that you can get like standard fair prizes like stuffed animals too, which is cute. but thats not what im asking.
what i'm really asking is: does this practice have a name overall? what is the ride called in other countries? is there any info you have on the history of it? there's no reason in particular for this i just think its neat. halp.
