Ells Tales: Chairbound

Pity me explanation: I tore my hamstring tendon completely, and had surgery Tuesday to reattach it. Six weeks non-weight bearing with a brace and a walker. So, basically, I'm homebound and disabled. I can walker-limp myself to the bathroom and back to the reclining chair. Boo hoo. It is a sad story and I have never been dependent on others in my entire long life!

So, what have I learned from the amazing people who have come to my rescue?

Don't say, "Call me if you need anything." If the other person is chair-bound, she literally needs things all day every day. Like: getting tea, folding laundry, putting sheets on bed, moving meds from one room to another, letting dog out, letting dog in, washing dishes, putting dishes away, microwaving food, carrying food to the recliner, picking up dishes, sweeping up dust. All day, every day.

Try this instead: "What day would be best for me to come help you? How about Tuesday afternoons?" And then, just show up and do whatever needs doing.

Because it's a lot of bleeping stuff, all the time.
