Lerche from 86 commissioned by the lovely @ananastus !
a write-up on Chaika's blorbos
writing this mostly to give myself an excuse to infodump gleb's russian teammates on yall (and also cry about them not announcing their preseason games yet)
this is NOT a full roster, just some players I recognize and know at least *something* about, you can find the actual one here, and if you want to watch the old games you can find them on JHL's official website here or on their YT channel here. Gleb's team is called Чайка. the height/weight info is from Chaika's official website and not checked against other sources because I don't trust JHL's website
It’s Audio Drama Sunday and I am on vacation, which ironically means I am not at all caught up on podcasts. What a blessing, to have the stories in my ears for work to make that work pleasant and to have rest that is actually restful. But let’s talk about the episodes that I actually got around to!
🐏 What kind of romance novel day is ya boi Isaac having in @landsendpod??? I love this guy. What a good counterpoint to the Shepherd, and finally a hint of answered questions about what’s going on with the sheep. And, evidently, the Shepherd himself as well. Whether or not Isaac is right remains to be seen—whether or not his spirit of scientific inquiry will lead into a Jurassic Park situation is something I’m VERY interested to find out.
🗝️ I am a huge fan of everything Jesse Hall makes because I love stories that are inextricable from their setting. Even when Tales of THATTOWN did forays into sci-fi and dystopia, it felt true and real and grounded in a way that I feel is rare in fiction in general. There’s so much more you can do in a fiction podcast too, and Hall takes as much advantage as he can. All that said, his new show, @lockboxpod, does not disappoint. The framing device is strange and surreal in a way that I’m really tickled by, and the story itself, which at first presents itself as a fairly simple premise, zig-zags into a small-town horror of corruption and bigotry. I’m really looking forward to the next installment.
🌕 This week I started listening to Chaika! I’d heard good things, and though I’m only a few episodes in, but I’m finding this story of isolation and synthetic friendship really engaging. If you’re a fan of Girl In Space, this is along similar lines with a very different mystery. Whether or not the bad guy is capitalism remains to be seen.
Listen. I know this isn’t comprehensive. There’s new Kakos Industries and Night Vale and Travelling Light. The Deca Tapes started their second season. Don’t even get me started on Malevolent. The Last Dance is staring me down Kubrick-style. But I’ll catch up when I can, because this vacation must not be wasted. See you next week!

I'm coming back with a vampire!
Happy Audio Drama Sunday! I've had a nice bit of time for listening this week so have been catching up on some favourites and new-to-mes!
First up, I finally caught up on @thesiltverses after dropping off for a couple of weeks and oh God this show simply continues to do it like nobody else. And I'm not just saying that because I'm in this week's ep (though I am, and doing rather marvellously if I say so myself. Nobody ever found so many different ways to say, "High Prophet!" 😉😂)
I also blasted through @redvalleypod, which I can't believe I didn't get round to before. Made me laugh out loud, often several times per episode, with brilliant moments of depth and darkness. Also got jumpscared by my cousin showing up at one point playing a side character 😅
Still working my way through @theheartpyre, which remains enormously good fun. If you like the CYOA elements of Travelling Light, THP are doing it on hard mode with a vote every episode 🤩 The characters are fab and I love how the world is unfolding as I listen!
As I mentioned in the intro this week's ep, I've also been working through Chaika's back catalogue, from @y2kpod. It's such a gorgeous show! 😍 Also, if you read our annotated scripts you know I'm a sucker for etymology, and the language stuff in Chaika is 😘👌
Finally, I've also been dabbling in some non-fiction podding with ADWIT (The Audio Drama Writers' Independent Toolkit), which shares tips and insights on writing for audio fiction! Only just started listening but already having a great time 💕 Don't think they're on Tumblr but please tag them if I'm mistaken!
How about you lot - what's been catching your ears this week? Any recs? Let me know!
