hrhhrhrhhmmgh thereās so much in his eyes
Just then, Hua Cheng, who was standing behind him, spoke. He approached with his fists at his sides. āYou bunch of unlearned country bumpkin ghosts, whatāre you all looking so surprised for?ā
āAnd youāre a man of the world, little ghost baby??ā
NOOOO DON'T CALL HIM LITTLE GHOST BABY SKSGSMZHZKZK

I really like how this, and the other big moves she uses, continues to use this casting pose. Itās so celestial, with divine connotations, especially since sheās on her knees arms spread out to receive, and the chant before it sounds like a prayer.Ā
Usually in religion we pray looking down, but looking up is common when worshipping. Sheās not asking for help from the stars-- she is expressing reverence and adoration for the celestial beings above, and they are responding with all their grace.
Thatās what makes this scene breathtaking.Ā

Look, I donāt want to take away from Lucyās shining moment or anything-- but I feel this conclusion should have been arrived at with Loke, and thenĀ enhanced byĀ Lucy. Instead of never addressing the parallels at all. He should have been pulled out of the darkness from Lokeās resolve, and then when Gemini cried, he realized that was truly what Lucyās bonds with her spirit means, then he picks himself back up.Ā
I mean, Loke is the one that parallels Hibiki directly. I canāt believe we never see more of what Hibiki thought of Loke. Did he blame Loke for Karenās death? Did he not know the situation either? Honestly they should have talked things out.

Rambling about Fairies - Manga Chapter 144
āOnce and only onceā, he says.Ā
This can mean a few things-- he can only do this once, or it costs too much magic, or it puts a cruel strain on the body of the person heās transferring it to, so he can only do this to one person once.Ā
I like to think he says heās only doing this once because it puts strain on Lucyās body, so he canāt teach more than one magic of this level like this. Itās forceful and technically aĀ ācheatā way of learning magic, so this drawback makes sense.Ā
Either way, I wish we saw more of Archive. Him using Archive as a shield was weird, but this is more in line with what weāre introduced to-- he can put his magic into people like transmitters, and download maps and timers into their head to organize thing efficiently. it makes sense that his ultimate usage is downloading overpowered magic that he himself canāt use into peopleās heads. In fact, Iād say Archive would be one of the few magics actively keeping Lost Magic alive.

Honestly, I feel itās important that this fight is not actually a fight in the manga. It didnāt go on for as long as it did and felt in the anime. This is all the battle was, one opener, two flash panels, and it ends in the next page.Ā
Itās quick, abrupt, and the conclusion comes out of nowhere in a tragically good way. Lucy didnāt even have time to react, unlike in the anime where dillydallying Lucy makes a comeback .The manga doesnāt censor blood, unlike the anime where they fade into glitter, so this is visceral and cruel. I like the way the wispy elements mix with blood. It makes them feel human (as is the intention) while still maintaining something inhuman about them (their mortality).Ā
In fact, you can see from the different reactions in Aries and Leo that one of them is considerably more used to this treatment than the other.Ā
My heart hurts for Aries. I wish we had more opportunities to see her be loved in the future arcs, but alas.Ā Ā

I really like the framing of this set of panels. While Lokeās emotional turmoil is clear on his face, we hear Hibikiās emotional turmoil loud and vivid, with him actually breaking down.Ā
Thereās even a subtle flash toward Nirvana as he realizes whatās happening to him. In fact, itās quite cool that both Hibiki and Loke come to the same conclusion despite handling their grief differently.Ā
They push their emotions aside and distract themselves with staying calm.Ā
Loke doesnāt even know about the Nirvana happening, which is the main difference. Hibiki said before this that knowing Nirvana is there makes you more susceptible to thinking in goods and bads and thus more vulnerable to the switching, but honestly, itās both and the other way around. Itās because Loke didnāt know of it that he could focus on the situation, and itās because Hibiki knew about it that he could consciously pull himself back long enough to hear Lucyās speech.Ā
Not everything is black and white in this world!
