So I don’t know if this carries over in the English, but the phrasing here, in the little memory of Roger asking Garp to take care of Ace on the grounds that his unborn child “is not/has committed no crime,” immediately rang familiar to me. Specifically, it reminded me of Franky’s line with regards to Robin on the sea train- “Existing is never a crime.”
I went back and checked, and it’s not an exact match- what Franky says is 罪にならない/tsumi ni naranai (‘it’s not a crime’) while Roger says 罪はない/tsumi wa nai (‘there is no crime’)- but close enough to be notable, I think.
