Class: Leaders
In class we spoke about leaders and the characteristics that leaders possess. My group came up with the following internal characteristics that leaders should possess: compassion, open-mindedness, public speaking skills, passion, and rationality. However, in class we didn’t specify whether we were speaking about a "good” leader or a “bad” leader. Of course, we instinctually thought about a good leader because those are the kind of leaders we want. Nonetheless, you can be a leader and not be benevolent. For instance, we named Hitler as a type of leader. He led genocides and hurt a countless number of people. Yet, it can be argued that he was a powerful leader. He persuaded so many people to do whatever he asked. Therefore, a leader doesn’t necessarily have to be warm or good, he simply has to have sufficient intellect and motivation to get people to fight for a cause. A leader has to be convincing. A leader has to convince people that his or her vision will lead to a better tomorrow. Further, we also named some external characteristics that a leader should have. We listed the following: being physically health, professional looking, and approachable. Once again, not all leaders will possess all the same traits and there are definitely different kinds of leaders. This class definitely opened my eyes to the kinds of leaders there are and the amount of power they possess to get a group of people to follow them.
