There’s nothing you should or shouldn’t use by default, It all depends on your budget, preferences and the equipment you already have, really! I can only speak from my personal experience, and I’m definitely not qualified to tell you guys what to do, heheh! ^^; But I’ll share just in case~ 

I started out recording and editing in Garage Band, which is a free program that comes with Apple Computers. My first (and current) mic is the AT2020, which is a USB mic. Getting a USB mic is definitely helpful as it saves you a lot of time and trouble when setting up your stuff to record! A USB mic that I see loads of people recommending to beginners is the Blue Snowball, or the Blue Yeti. But again, this depends on your budget. I’ve also seen people being successful in cover groups using a Sing It microphone they got with their Xbox. 

A program that you can get for free and that gets the job done recording and filtering your audio is Audacity. For mixing, it depends on what you’re working with. I work with Garage Band, Mewms and Marina use Adobe Audition and Dane (our mixer) works with Logic Pro! 

And when in doubt, just use google! Google searches like “what is a cheap, good mic” and “mixing program for beginners” can really help because you’re definitely not the only person looking for similar advice! Good luck~ 

I started 9 Mermaids by making a casting call explaining what I wanted to achieve and asking people to join! It can be as simple as that, just asking people and giving them the chance to audition and participate! Good luck with your group~

The basics for a beginner, that’s a veeery broad topic, my friend! But I’ll try to put together a little to do list to help you get started with your MCF entry. First you’re gonna have to decide on a team. Are you going to be working alone, or with others? And if so, how are you gonna divide the tasks? Then, on August 1st, we will release a song list. This list will include instrumentals and lyrics. Then you’ll have to sing and record those lyrics and time them to the audio to create the cover.Then it’s time to get creative with a video! You can take a look at all the different categories that you can sign up for in the information doc, and see how many of those you want to apply to your entry. Things like harmonies, art work, animation, etc. Then combine the audio and the visuals and there you have it, your cover video! Good luck~! - Sky (Chika)
