I did "certain doom" before, but then it occurred to me that that might be too pessimistic.
A few more frequent reactions and relatable moods from my recent letter drawing practice
When you’re in the swim team locker room and you hear the wii sound and you know that the final boss battle has begun.
Prepare yourself
Here Come the Torpedoes! 2-8 Apr
The torpedos appeared from out of their torsos, one from each eel, and they began to fire at us. They cut the distance between us in a blink of an eye. It was looking like we wouldn't even have a chance to get out of the way. "Pem!" I yelled.
The fishman turned around with a look of annoyance on his - 'oh, that landbreather, bothering me again with his air needing lungs' - but that look was quickly wiped away when he saw the reason I was yelling for him this time. Surprise and then fear took over his face, then what appeared to me like a kind of morbid acceptance. He knew as well as I did that there was no escaping these torpedos. They were already upon us. There was nowhere to go, no way to escape. They had us dead to rights.
So we just floated there, it couldn't have been for much more than a second, but it felt like much longer. It felt like we floated there for ten minutes watching the torpedos coming toward us, but in actuality it was little more than a few blinks of the eye. In barely the time it would have taken to sneeze, the torpedoes were upon us.
There was no time to move. They were already there. All I could do was close my eyes and hope for the best, but I couldn't even do that. I couldn't take my eyes off of our impending doom. I watched as the torpedoes came at us, watched it get closer and closer. I watched as it got inches from my face, waiting for it to explode.
And then I watched as the torpedoes, one after the other, sailed right by us.
They missed! I don't know how it could have happened. We were so close and there were 3 of them and there were 2 of us. The likelihood of them missing both of us completely seemed pretty small, but there it was.
Or so I thought.
Until I realized...they hadn't been aiming at us.
