What do you think about Cerberus from housepets?
There are many reasons why she is one of my favourite characters:
1.
This one-off
2. I LOVE her as a concept. I've always had a certain fascination with psychopomps, and she is no exception. To depict Cerberus not as a terrifying beast who eats people, but as a psychopomp is one of my favourite interpretations of the character. She's a border collie! A herding dog! She is not a depiction of DEATH but in a way still embodies the shepherd!
3.
Like other celestials doing 'the voice,' her speech bubbles get coloured in. HOWEVER, I love how her different heads get different shades of blue to distinguish them. They also have distinct personalities, and yet, she is always referred to as a single being. It reminds me of Hekate in a way: three heads facing in different directions at the border of realms and yet one cohesive whole.
4. This is just me being a linguistics nerd but
The nameplate on her desk is her Greek name! This has fascinating implications. My theory is that the names of celestials are based on what people know them as (because that's how names work). Just like how Pete is called Pete because Peanut couldn't pronounce his true name, Cerberus uses her Roman name because that is what both the Anglophone characters and audience are most familiar with. Pete remains Pete because that is the name that we, the audience, know him as, and so that is the name we are presented with. Had use of the term "Cerberus" dwindled around the turn of the 20th century (along with many other Roman terms for Greco-Roman syncretized figures), we may have known her as Kerberos.
5. Anyway ignore that previous point; it's not super important. I also think her design is really really cool! The piercings, the BRIGHT LIME GREEN SPIKED COLLAR, the symbolism of her being a border collie! It's delicious! She's also a blue dog, which, as the guide to a furcon-ass Heaven is SO funny to me.
...So yeah she's alright I guess
