#ceramic coasters

Time for coasters! I have a ton of these tiles left over from some past projects that I’ve been trying to figure out what to make with them, i figured since I had enough for three coaster sets I’d make coasters!

This set, plus the next two sets I’m working on, are all inspired by a faceted vase I made in February where each face was a painted in this brush stroke layer look. Each set is inspired by one of the colour schemes with the darkest shade of whatever colour I used mimicking the dark blue outline of the vase. This is the green set and was painted with Mayco Stroke and Coat wonderglazes with the Amaco mixing clear as a top coat (I didn’t have a regular top coat at the time 😅). I think the mixing clear is what caused the funky bubble look but I think it looks really cool regardless!

I've had these for 12 years now and the picture has hardly faded. They're nice and sturdy, and come with felt feet to attach to the bottom. It's a set of 4, and they're such good quality I'm still using the first one on my computer desk and haven't had to switch them out.

Surprise package

My friend’s daughter, Meghan, lives in Minneapolis. When Lord Huron played a sold-out show in St. Paul last month, I pulled a certain string I happen to have and got Meghan and her husband into the show.

It was very a difficult maneuver for me.. A couple of weeks before the show I sent LH’s front man a text and he replied, “Sure; just send me their names.”

When Sharon and I got home from the lake Wednesday, a package was waiting at the post office. Inside were eight fabulous ceramic coasters (see photo) bearing various LH-related scenes. One (bottom right) even commemorates my appearance as Sultan Jack in the “She Lit a Fire” video.
