What would you say the extent of Ryker's power is? Are there parts of his own abilities that he hasn't unlocked? If so will he ever discover them?

i think in the future, when ryker is in a better place (aka not taking as many drugs that dampen his abilities, and confident enough to explore what he can do with them) i’d like him to figure out how to share emotions with other people! so if he touches you, he can allow you to feel what he’s feeling.
i’d also like him to eventually be able to do the same with auras (give other people glimpses of auras, including their own, through touch and concentration) but that will be way down the line. i feel like both of those things will be very challenging for him, and ryker isn’t in tune enough with other people (or himself) atm to be able to be that introspective and confident.

What would you say keeps Ryker from going off the deep end? Is there someone or something that keeps him anchored? Or does he do it for himself?
ohhhh boy yeah let’s get into it. just as a fair warning, ryker’s childhood is basically #underage drug use #underage drinking #suicide idealization and some minor non-mentions of #child abuse
i’d say what kept him from “going off the deep end” when he was younger was his own spiteful nature and drugs. he had a chaotic and isolated childhood and i think what kept him from falling too deeply into loneliness, anger, and self-hatred was the few hobbies he had at the time (working on cars and drawing) and the promised state of being intoxicated at some point in the future. he never really had stability, or a decent role model, or the love and authority of a parental figure, which are all pretty necessary for a child – not to mention coming into his empathic ability, which made it even harder to communicate and be around other people. because he missed those things in his developmental years he became prone to aggressiveness, depression, and recklessness as a teenager/young adult, and he learned to depend on himself for survival.
that’s not to say that ryker never met a single nice adult or peer during his entire childhood, because he did. the man who taught him to work on cars is the closest thing ryker’s got to a hero, and he still visits him from time to time. the problem was none of these brushes ever lasted. he never had a permanent friend group or family.
so he did sometimes contemplate suicide, especially after the introduction of his powers. being empathic in a foster home meant he was subject to the feelings of other lonely, angry kids, and also to the adults that fostered them. the households he lived in were often unstable, either because of overworked, underpaid caretakers, or because of the troubled children and teenagers they were watching. he ended up experiencing emotions that were way out of his wheelhouse, things he didn’t or couldn’t deal with physically or mentally. it was a very stressful time in ryker’s life, and it shaped him as a person.
but presently!!!
you say anchor, i say @astraost. pace is his first reliable friend, and that’s something ryker’s never been able to count on before. that kind of support can only change him for the better, even if it’s gradual. having someone he feels like he can rely on, or tell the truth to is a huge step for him, and for once it’s in a positive direction.
and through rping on this blog i hope i can have him meet and bond with other oc’s, and hopefully continue growing and healing as a person. ♡♡♡

Al’s dog Tess is actually a mix of breeds. she looks heavily like a bernese mountain dog and al isn’t sure what she’s mixed with. he found her when he was 18 and living on the streets. he was barely able to feed himself but he managed to take care of and train this puppy. she’s stuck with him since then and is unfailingly loyal to her master.
later, he trains her similar to a service dog to help him when he’s having telepathic overload.

he knew they were down in numbers on this mission, there was no way they could all go into this even fighting with their absolute ALL, and have every single one of them come out on the other end, it would be almost impossible for such to happen and he knew that -- he knew they needed MORE on their side. the idea to bring cen in on their mission had been his idea, if anything it wasn't just an idea, it was an ORDER; they needed him, and the captain could only hope that upon asking him to join them, he would gladly oblige -- otherwise, they truly were entirely out of luck on this one.
