The story is about a mysterious stranger coming in and rising the ranks of the New York crime scene. He is ruthless and apathetic, willing to do whatever it takes to rule the city.

The 2006 book received critical acclaim. And a film adaptation was presented at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2025 for studios to pick, where it was a hot property. Channing Tatum, Oscar Isaac, and Zazie Beetz were set to star.

Oscar Isaac left due to scheduling conflicts and was replaced by Taron Egerton. Filming was set to begin in January 2026, pushed to February, and now is set for April. And then the lead Channing Tatum left due to his accident.

Chris has signed on for the lead role. It's such an exciting, challenging role as his character, Jerry, is supposed to have no morality. He has never done such a small-scale film before either. This one will be for the film festivals!

Jerry has two companions on his journey:

Mite (Taron Egerton), "an undersized gangster suffering an acute case of existential angst", and Celia Singer (Zazie Beetz), a crippled telephone operator "who finds in Jerry a key to unlocking her hidden passions".

But Jerry feels no love or attachment so he is happy to go to pr-stitutes and then p-mps them out (when I say he has no empathy: Billy Lee on steroids, which is saying something). Meanwhile Mite harbors a crush on Celia. Looks like a fd up love triangle, haha.

Oh, absolutely! Jerry is supposed to be lean.

He is described as tall, strong, with inhuman strength like a superhero (come on!). And we have silhouettes of all three main characters on top of chapters that are from their POV:

That said, Chris didn't need to slim down for this. He was perfectly fine at his normal physique. He isn't massively muscular like these guys:

He looks pretty normal - in suits especially:

But he always goes the extra mile for his characters ❤️

He already operates at 10% body fat, which is too low. So slimming down basically means he loses pure muscle mass, which is extremely hard and painful, especially as he gets older. So IDK how he did it so quickly for a movie he just signed. He keeps outing himself as a norse god or something.

And then he will need to bulk back up for Tyler and Th*r later. Damn.

He is supposed to be insanely handsome but his smile is supposed to be scary and he's always smiling. And for the life of me I couldn't picture a scary smile on someone so handsome. Especially someone like Chris who has such a charming smile:

Even as his villainous characters he doesn't have a scary smile, only a flamboyant one:

But he nailed that in the first picture alone, and then the subsequent ones that came out:

To quote what my bestie said about them:

Knowing Jerry, he probably is. Anyway, Chris got the smile down, for sure, but there is more.

Jerry's voice is supposed to be like two different people speaking at once, and both of them hate each other. His gait is supposed to be happy and jaunty. ??? How the heck is anyone meant to act this out. These kinda descriptions are nice to read in books only.

And then there are his eyes - they say they are pure evil. Mite gets a jolt when he looks in them for the first time. And Abagados says eyes are a window to the soul and Jerry is a monster, that's why he doesn't let people look him in the eyes:

Come on!

He can change his smile, voice, walk - he always has for all his characters but very notably for Dementus - but how will he make his beautiful blue eyes scary and evil ??? 😭

Conversely, Celia doesn't think any of that. She doesn't see him as scary or evil even though she knows he is. She thought he was attractive and beautiful when he was in oversized clothes and all. But she also loves how violent he is so I guess her worldview is highly skewed any way.

And he knows he is chris hemsworth how attractive he is and uses it to his full advantage. He uses his sx appeal to get what he wants and seduce people to do his bidding.

The novel is so layered, there is so much to analyse. Like that one scene where Abagados' right hand man is speaking to everyone while Jerry and Abagados keep looking at each other. You understand everything about their relationship without them speaking a word.

I love every Chris project but I just know this will be my Roman Empire. It is exactly what I didn't know I wanted to see him do. That said, the character is so challenging and he didn't get any prep time, so I'm a little worried how he will pull it off. In the stills tho he looks to be doing a good job. ❤️

This director won the best director award at freakin Cannes for his prev film, there is no way this movie doesn't turn out absolutely fantastic.

To answer your questions,

When he becomes human, he has all the human functions, organs, and fluids. He's not half human or anything, he's fully human.

He learns the ways of the humans. Mite takes him to see movies, he goes out w the pr-stitutes to restaurants, bars, etc. He knows how humans operate. And given how averse he is to having children, he would have learned how to prevent it. And pr-stitutes would object to doing anything that could get em pregnant, me thinks.

Celia getting pregnant was purely accidental. He never wanted her to. Getting her pregnant and then punishing her for it - he know what it did to her and he still did it. All while saying he loves her. An absolute monster. 😵‍💫

First of all, Chris Hemsworth can be covered in mud or blood and he'd still be sexy as all heck. He's Chris Hemsworth:

They didn't even try, man. He looks pristine - just in oversized clothes. You can still see his abs. 😆

Second, that's wrong. He had always been so focussed on being well groomed, which is why he was always clean shaven and wearing suits:

i know i keep saying the book is a horror show but it's a great horror show, if yall wanna read 😆. which is why i think they should present the movie as horror and tap into the behemoth of the obsession backrooms market. take my ideas, small producers.

there is a straight up scene where they describe darkness taking over something and it blends into jerry walking up to a man and torturing him in front of his wife and 3 children. and when mite sees him for the first time he gets a jolt, feeling scared when jerry is just smiling at him.

and the scene where celia is thinking who those other guys would be afraid of and then is like oh, who else (so you do realize girl). not to mention him chewing chris hemsworth's face. he is the monster of the story.

anyway now i'll just have to write the fic otherwise it won't leave my head. 🙈

while i'm here can i just say this 👇🏼 is still the hottest pic of all of the ones we got. and it's an actual frame of the movie. he looks so evil i love it 😍🤌🏼

They both knew the other likes her, they just don't tell that they themselves do too because of that reason. So there's some betrayal there.

Jerry said to him he'll give him whatever he asks (as he shows by giving him that house). So I wonder what would've happened if Mite asked Jerry to step away from Celia. I think Jerry would have.

And listen, before she ever got to be with Jerry, Celia does say to herself that if Mite just asked, she would have given him a chance. And that's Mite's problem, he never took that step. Jerry did. He asks her the minute he meets her when he didn't even understand words. And then later which leads to their relationship.

So what he's a serial killer I would've gone for Jerry. I get it, Celia 🙈. Remember the disturbing scenes of all the pr-stitutes begging him to pick 'em for a night. Everyone wants him.

"catching them having sx probably broke his heart" Bro decided to end Jerry by not just selling him out to Abagados but literally blowing up the warehouse by double crossing everyone. I'd say he was mad at Jerry alright. 😆

I also think Mite is going to narrate because that's how the book is. It'd be awesome because he has so many cool lines:

It seems that the ending will remain the same. Which makes sense since this is the reverse of The Metamorphosis where the protagonist withers away into nothingness in the end.

Chris is going to kill it he better get that oscar nom.
