he Minor Basilica of the Santo Niño or Basilica Minore del Santo Niño is the first ever church established in the Philippines. It was built on the spot where the image of the Santo Niño left behind during the Magellan expedition was found preserved in a burnt wooden box.

Within a stone's throw from the basilica is Magellan's Cross. It is a Christian cross planted by Ferdinand Magellan along with Portuguese, and Spanish explorers upon their arrival in Cebu. It is one of the most famous tourist landmarks not only of Cebu but of the entire Philippines.
