sleepless nights have been an issue for a long while. ricky couldn’t exactly explain the reason why he isn’t able to sleep well to his brothers because he knew that if he did, problems would ensue. so rather than letting the both of them know why he can’t get the peace that he wants, he stays silent and lets them worry over why he hasn’t been getting the amount that he should’ve gotten.
it’s strange, really. after going back with the help of the restoration card, ricky thought the slepless nights would end. that all his nightmares about the apocalypse would disappear because he was back in this life now along with everyone else. but instead, he’s taken back to the time when he was happier and while those moments are sweet, he’s taken back to the horrifying event that follows them afterwards.
it’s better to stay awake rather than see a whole horror movie the moment he closes his eyes. that way, he could remember he wasn’t there anymore. he was in this world. he was living with danny, vinny, and soonshim, who were all alive this time and he hopes they keep staying that way.
but even if he couldn’t find a way to tell his brothers, he was able to help himself somehow (at least, he was sure that he was helping himself). even if he’s changed a lot as a person, some habits never die. he still does venture out into the world whenever he needed to breathe. with quiet steps to make sure that no one in the house knew that he was awake, he slides out of the apartment as silently as he could before he makes his way outside to the city. ricky never went out to the city often at nighttime, but he does know it’s calmer than in the morning time (especially since it’s not a chore with soonshim).
he eventually finds himself at place that holds many memories for him and a certain past. as he sits on one particular bench, he thinks of the memories that have molded themselves into his character today. from how he met aku, basil’s confession, and finally a dream where he was able to move on, it’s sad to say that this park was one of the places that didn’t hold a burden in his heart. compared to the city that now looks more alive and new compared to what it looked like during the apocalypse.
if it hadn’t been for that, he wouldn’t even have to come here to reminisce those times that didn’t leave a painful mark on him. he wouldn’t be the sad, pathetic man who sat alone in the park at such a late time thinking about events that have happened and dreams that could have been. perhaps he should try to focus more on the world so that he could notice and recognize the person walking his way.
