– in your orbit (you pull me in) –

Aelius let his feet take control. It was fine; he’d be able to reach his destination blindfolded anyway. It was quiet, but, of course it was. It was five-forty five in the morning; it was normal for the streets to be empty, normal for the air smell of ozone and morning dew, not car exhaust. He was supposed to be back at his apartment, in bed and asleep just like the rest of those around him. But…
Aelius heaved a sigh as he rubbed his face. It wasn’t exactly anything new; he was always restless when the sun dipped below the horizon. His source of power, his entire being, was disappearing for the next ten or so hours, anyone would be nervous. But something about tonight, now, forced Aelius to stay up, to come out, nerves be damned. He didn’t know what was happening but it was probably best to not go against it. So, here he was, walking towards the beach just as the city reached its darkest hour.
Aelius felt the beach before he could see it; the air felt heavy with salt particles dancing with oxygen, his white t-shirt clung to his frame, and the sounds of oncoming waves reached his ears. By the time his sandaled feet touched the sand, the feeling grew much stronger. More than a feeling, it was a tug. Something was tugging Aelius towards the shoreline and he didn’t know what was doing the pulling.
Heeding the pull, he continued to make his way towards the water, paying no mind to anything around him. The closer he got, the stronger the pull was, until he was practically tripping over his feet, running. Something was clawing up his lungs, choking him, as if it was trying to pull his very soul out from his human capsule but he still ran. He ran until his feet hit the water and continued to run until the waves lapped at his thighs.
Standing knee-deep in the water, Aelius’s chest heaved as he panted. And just like that, the tug was gone. Poof. He turned left and right, confused. What was that? What happened? His brows furrowed and he looked into the horizon, silently asking for an answer. The moon touched the shoreline, the night coming to an end, but the first rays of the sun shone through the waters, the beginning of day. Aelius’s eyes widened as the sun’s rays and the moon rested on the same shoreline, the beginning and end coming to meet in the middle.
