So this was a fanfic I was going to showcase for the comment bingo last month as my "no kudos" fic, as eight days ago it had no kudos. But then... well. It started getting kudos. So I commented on it at that time, and saved it in my pocket for a more general rec since I so enjoyed sharing other people's works.

This fic is from Genshin Impact and is called Into the Wilds by Cavalierious. It hits one of the buttons I enjoy most in Genshin fic, namely either 1) having the Traveler interact with characters outside of the most "popular ones", or 2) having characters interact with each other completely independent of the Traveler.

Xiangling and Ayato are the stars of the show this time, since Xiangling is visiting Inazuma to track down a unique ingredient for a new recipe and Ayato is her (only somewhat willing) companion and gofer. Xiangling's typical exuberance shines through in this fic, and you can't help but feel bad for Ayato as you watch him trot along after someone who at minimum takes Itto's chaos and dials it up to eleven. And yet—Ayato is no slouch when it comes to a joke or two. There's enough small details sprinkled in about his home life here to give him a lot more depth than he typically receives in canon.
