If GRRM really has the level of influence he claims this time, we’re going to see a lot more of the deep-cut lore and character logic actually respected. It’s still HBO, so the cash-grab fingerprints are there, and a few early tweaks already made me squint, but I’m holding judgment until the whole season plays out. Sometimes the setup looks weird until you see what they’re steering toward.
Either way, I enjoyed the hell out of the first episode. The fact it immediately took a dump on Game of Thrones just made it sweeter. 😌
