Okay, so, hot take about the racism in that Caustic voice line...
Listen. I’m not gonna call Caustic a racist for it. They didn’t mean to have him say something racist; if they did, they would’ve kept the line and said, “Yeah, that was deliberate, Caustic is supposed to be racist” OR they would’ve removed it but clarified “As much as we intended Caustic to be a racist, it’s more important to us that our Korean/East Asian players don’t have to constantly hear a slur being thrown around than it is for this character trait to be front and center, so we’re going to remove it out of respect for you guys.” The fact that they apologized for using a slur and had made a previous attempt to make sure it wasn’t a slur says they didn’t intend for him to be racist, so it feels disingenuous to label him as such.
However.
They did intend to give Caustic a line where he insults Crypto. The fact that said line veered into racism might have been accidental, but he was meant to be insulting and cruel. And honestly? Insulting the guy whose life YOU screwed up ON PURPOSE both in an act of emotional abuse against someone else and in order to save your own skin is plenty bad on its own, so that line is still a perfectly good reason to hate Caustic. And also, even if he’s not a racist, he still said eugenics-y stuff last season so y’know, there’s that.
