Books & Movies Galore !
So, as i said in my previous post, my summers get boring from time to time. What do i do to make the not so boring? You guessed it! Youre so smart :3 haha I go to the Library and rent books and movies.
My annual summer reading haul [and i do mean HAUL] tends to turn heads, as i approach the library desk with my book hauling bag close in tow. As i place my large bag on the counter it echos through out the large room, and i feel as if the entire library is watching me. I pay no attention to the stares and kindly ask the librarian to check out my finds.
"I'm glad to see that there are still kids your age with such a love for reading!" exclaims the librarian as she checks out the last DVD.
I smile at the woman and bid her adieu. As i make my way out the door, still feeling several pairs of eyes on my back, a little girl and her mother pass me and i hear the little girl whisper something to her mother. Her mother replied:
"I don't know, she probably has nothing to do for the summer."
And that is precicely it. I have nothing to do. What soever. But i love to read. So until i find something to do, and in every moment of boredom, i will read.
My haul genres this year is mostly novels. Genres: Comedies, Dramas, and Historical Fiction.
The first book from my bag that i picked up is Caucasia by Danzy Senna. It's a historical fiction which takes place in the 70's when the fight for racial equality was a a hooter topic than it is today in 2011. The main characters, Birdie and Cole, are sisters. Their parents are both activists, but their mother is white while their father is black. With Cole, it's easy to tell that she is of mixed race, but birdie looks straight white. How did this happen? I really don't know. I have never heard of anything like that. Now before you go shooting off your mind saying Well you're not married to someone outside your race are you? Me: No. Well how would you know? I'm going to stop you right there because i've got a surprise for you. I happen to be a product of mixing races. Shocked? Thought i was all white? Don't worry i'm not offended, i get that all the time. But my racial mix is a topic either for another post, or something you will never hear about again.
But back to the book. I picked it up for three reasons: 1.) i thought the picture on the cover was cute. it's a picture of two female paper dolls. One is black, the other is white, and they are holding hands. 2.) the name: Caucasia. it's interesting. 3.) The summary. I felt like i could sort of relate to the summary.
Caucasia is only book #1 that i will be reading this summer. Total count: 12. All books with the exception of 3 are over 375 pages. Yep. i <3 reading.
I might post my review of Caucasia and the other 11 books that i picked up today. Hopefully [: Well hope yall have something to do this summer.
