When I Hear Music, It makes me dance

Cato enjoyed dancing if they were invited to, especially to older songs within the 50's-90's. Otherwise, they would rarely initiate. They often used dance as a way to have meaningful conversations, even if no words were spoken during the dance as following the other person's rhythm and adapting to their style was sometimes enough. Some spoke to him during, some didn't. Either way, Cato listened whether it was the voice coming from the person or the record. If they were good at anything at all, it was listening.

Songs describing some sort of love or heartbreak were some of his favorite music to listen to, he adored heartfelt music before his ideal view of romance was crushed as he grew older.

Current Cato however cant stand the sound of music anymore as it all sounds like unintelligible chaotic noise to them. At best he finds most sounds annoying to listen to, at worst they freak out specifically if OLDER songs are played near them and will do anything to get rid of the noise. Hysteria found this out the hard way and restricted music from being played in the manor since then, despite it being an off putting rule nobody in the Serial Family cared enough to question it.

A good example of what Cato on the average hears when listening to music is L1 Advanced plaque entanglements - The Caretaker (Stage 5) (tw: EXTREMELY unsettling/loud sounds. PLEASE read the ABOUT section in this link if you don't want to listen.)

Its just business.

sorry for lackluster doodles, been feeling demotivated lately. anyways

I'm slowly working my way to building a refined lore for the shipkids as some of their stories do intertwine, but not all.

As for Cato and Hysteria for example; they are 'business associates' (although their dynamic will say otherwise). Hysteria is a master manipulative business woman who puts out bounties for the less fortunate by reeling them in with fake hospitality and a promised reward only to be met with life time debts dropped on their heads. And if you don't comply, she sends Cato to haunt them or even torture them to near death (not kill, as she will do that herself if necessary) until the debt is paid that ultimately ends with their life.

She manipulated a vulnerable Cato (will explain later) and asked that he would do her bidding so that in return he would get some souls to feed on, As Cato can only power his magic from the souls of others. (he stores them in his gaster blaster skull) Cato agreed as he led to believe he didn't have a choice, and his first assignment were the Serial Family. (Skinner, Grime and Hunter)

Anyways, me and the other fan of cato would love to hear more about him, or any funfact you like to share with us so we might get to know him better?

Cato is a fun one to talk abt, because as it stands right now he's more of a hollow version of their past self leaving nothing but past details to look back on.

Cato has always had a soft spot for his younger siblings, he use to often entertain them with his silly antics as shown in the old art. Especially Shino as she was one of the few kids who could look at him without his mask on. His mask was made only after his siblings were born as they would get frightened by the sight and supposedly have nightmares soon after.

Some current fun facts about him is his weird fascination with strawberries. While he doesn't necessarily need food as substance he occasionally finds himself enjoying something strawberry flavored or staring at strawberry related objects.

I didn’t draw it but he also floats/hovers above ground, his feet usually never touch the floor.

Speaking of Hysteria, funnily enough their lives revolve around each other a lot now that Cato often finds himself looking after and silently scolding her when she drinks. Hysteria is a heavy drinker, Cato does not approve. Sometimes it reminds him of bad memories.

As for Hysteria; There are times where she finds herself fidgeting and talking to her seal, asking for fatherly advice or even just incoherent rambling. It's one of the few times she’s seemingly intimate whilst sober, other than that she's regularly a closed off person. No one knows she does this though, but she’s very noticeably protective of her seal.

Another fact abt Hysteria is she LOVES money, it's one of her most prized possessions…that she occasionally also gambles away! Aside from money, she also loves to win allowing the thrill of gambling overtake her rationale. Cato also doesn't approve. Hysteria is currently rich through her bounty hunts and old pirate days, she currently owns a big flying pirate ship (that's stored away) and her own manor where she houses Cato and The Serial Family. All this to still be stingy with her money, she HATES letting others handle her money or borrow it.

As mentioned before on Cato's post, Hysteria loves to drink as a pastime. Beer and wine are her chosen poison, and often stops by Minx's bar for either. Minx always listens to Hysteria's stories and complaints abt the nuisances that live with her, especially since Hysteria tips her handsomely afterwards. Minx is seemingly the only other person Hysteria talks to despite the conversations being one sided and the info meaningless.

you know how there's that saying; "Death can seem cruel"? or "The Cruelty of Death"?

Cato is the personified being of that saying. Cato is a merciless, indiscriminately cruel reaper, who seeks victims close to death and takes pleasure in watching them suffer until their last breathe as if it were a punishment for not fulfilling their life to the end. But none of the suffering is personal to them, its not about watching 'certain' people die. They merely enjoy the suffering in itself, No one is safe.

There is no justice, no closure and certainly nothing humane in his work. If there are cases where a person is slowly withering in pain; minutes, even hours, before passing? Cato is there, simply watching. Making sure they live every. single. painful. second. Until they pass.

And even after a tortured death, Cato won't guide them to the afterlife.

Hysteria and Cato met by sheer coincidence, their paths coinciding at the right time.

Cato had just massacred a family for nourishment from their tortured souls, sitting in front of their porch letting his guard down for a split second only to drift asleep. Prior to this he was in a weakened state wandering worlds aimlessly...tired, lonely and battered. After all, it was much harder for him to enjoy killing someone if they're not already one foot out the door not to mention; souls who suffer more before death provide him with more power to store for his magic.

Little did he know one of the person he killed within the house was a former bounty that Hysteria had put a price on, and she had come to collect their debt that day. Only for Hysteria to be met with that gruesome sight. She saw Cato napping and for a split second, thought abt killing him right then and there for getting in her way. But, for better or worse, she thought of something else and decided the situation worked in her favor enough to profit from it. As Cato slept, Hysteria used her magic to intensify the occurring nightmares/hallucinations Cato was having sending him into a panic and jerking him awake. Hysteria confronted the frightened Cato, comforted him and finally manipulated negotiated him into working for her by promising a home, nourishment and most importantly; she assured them help dealing with his nightmares, something that Cato was silently struggling with since being on his own.

Cato still has severe nightmares and hallucinations currently, clinging onto the hope that Hysteria keeps her end of the deal
