Love Betrays
Throughout my life, I have encountered numerous unexplainable things; the biggest one is love. I did not know anything about love. “I had not wanted to fall in love with any one. But God knows I had.”(Hemingway 93). Love came to me as unexpected as thunder. But when it hit me, it hit me hard. Sometimes I wish that love had lost its track and never found me. Sometimes I wish that love had not stroked me so hard. Love pierced a hole in my heart and tore me apart. Catherine Barkley was everything to me, “when I saw her I was in love with her. Everything turned over inside of me”(91). I do not understand. Our love was a sanctuary for me. I felt safe in her company. And yet, I cannot understand why love betrayed me? Love is what destroyed me. Our love is what destroyed her! We both created that beautiful-monster; a baby that grew inside of her and killed her. I learned to love and this is how love responds? Catherine was right, now I could also see her dead in the rain. -Henry
