Models for Hierarchical Data
If you need to set up a category tree, with a hierarchical structure, there are four methods I have come accross on the slideshow embedded below. They are:
Adjacency List
Path Enumeration
Nested Sets
Closure Table
Each method has it's advantages and disadvantages. You can go through them here:

 In my case, I'm going with the 'naive' adjacency list since my category tree is only 2 levels deep, and won't get any deeper. It's perfect for what I need it for, and also easy to implement.
