No plan survives first contact with the enemy.Ā
At this point, Alp didnāt even have a plan.Ā Everything was so far from what heād anticipated that he just had to act, not think.Ā Rolling to his feet after making Jasper take the brunt of landing on the bridge, it just took a split second for him to see the police blockade, the Kovali car speeding toward them, and way too much empty space without cover to hope to get away on foot.Ā And then the truck went through the guardrail with Cat inside--Cat, who couldnāt shoot, whoād freaked out at the gunfire, who didnāt belong here--and Alp couldnāt let her die.
And he sure as hell didnāt want to die either.
So it was just instinct to take to the safest way out: off the bridge.Ā The bridge would provide cover; direct pursuit was unlikely; heād trained for this; he had to reach Cat.
--And then he felt like heād been kicked in the shoulder, and heard the crack of the pistol just before he hit the river.
But the bite of cold water and rush of adrenaline kept the pain away, and he surfaced under the bridge where the rain of gunfire couldnāt reach him, waiting for it to stopāwhen would the police do their job?!Ā The truck was sinking fast, and if Cat had managed not to get shot or hurt in the crash, sheād have to deal with the river until he was able to reach her.Ā But somehow, Alp was going make it work.
