Meet Mike — A Survivor Who’s Still Purring Through the Pain 💔🐾
Mike is a 9-year-old neutered longhaired orange cat who came to us as a stray through Animal Control. From the moment we met him, it was clear that he’s been through something unimaginable — yet he remains one of the sweetest souls you could ever meet.
Mike is missing his entire lower jaw. The wound appears old and has since healed with granulation tissue, and he has a deformed nose with stertorous breathing. Despite all of this, he leans into gentle pets and purrs softly, showing nothing but trust and gratitude for every bit of kindness he’s given.
Our veterinarian suspects this may be the result of previous trauma, though it’s uncertain what happened to him. They’ve recommended that, if trauma is confirmed, a consultation with a veterinary surgeon may help determine whether his upper lips could be repaired and his nostrils enlarged to improve breathing. Nasal radiographs are also recommended to rule out additional trauma.
Mike received buprenorphine injections for pain and a few additional doses for comfort, but no other treatments have been performed yet. He is otherwise stable, eating soft food, and showing us every day just how much strength and love he still has left to give.
We are urgently seeking a rescue partner who can help give Mike the specialized care he needs — and the comfort of a quiet, loving space to heal.
We can provide transport and all medical records and behavioral notes to support his placement.
Even after all he’s been through, Mike still believes in people. Let’s show him that he was right to. 🧡
