Rescue Needed ASAP: Barbie & Her 3 Newborn Kittens - Calvert County Animal Shelter - Maryland
Mama Barbie and Her Babies Need Out
Barbie is a beautiful 1-year-old, 9-pound cat who came to the shelter through Animal Control. Upon arrival, staff quickly realized that Barbie was heavily pregnant. To everyone's surprise, when we arrived the very next day, Barbie had already given birth to three tiny kittens.
Now this young mom is doing her best to care for her babies in the shelter environment, but a busy shelter is no place for a newborn family. We are urgently seeking a rescue partner to take Barbie and her three kittens so they can grow and thrive in a safe, quiet setting.
Barbie was friendly and social when she first arrived. Since giving birth, she has naturally become protective of her kittens, as any devoted mother would. She is focused on keeping her babies safe while adjusting to the stress of shelter life.
We are hoping to secure placement for Barbie and her kittens as soon as possible. These little ones deserve the chance to grow up outside of the shelter, and Barbie deserves the opportunity to raise her family in a calm and comfortable environment.
If your rescue can help Barbie and her three babies, please reach out as soon as possible.
Barbie is up to date on vaccines and FIV/FeLV negative.
Additional animals in need are available and can be seen on our website www.calvertcountyanimalshelter.com.

Pluto Needs a Place to Belong
Meet Pluto, a 1-year-old, 68-pound Black Labrador Retriever who came to the shelter as a stray. Sadly, no one came looking for this handsome boy.
Pluto appears to have had limited exposure to the world during his short life and can be nervous when meeting new people. When he feels uncomfortable, he tends to retreat rather than engage. Since arriving at the shelter, Pluto has been working hard on building his confidence and has slowly allowed more staff members into his special circle of trust.
Once you're part of Pluto's club, his true personality shines through. He becomes affectionate, playful, and wonderfully goofy. He knows "sit," enjoys spending time with his favorite people, and is learning leash manners. While he's a bit selective about treats, we've found a few favorites that win him over. He also enjoys stretching his legs and running around the play yard.
What Pluto loves most, however, is other dogs. His entire demeanor changes when he has a canine friend around. He becomes more relaxed, more confident, and eager to play. Other dogs help bring out the very best in him.
Pluto is struggling to find his footing in the shelter environment and would greatly benefit from the stability, patience, and love that a rescue can provide. We are seeking a rescue partner willing to take this sweet young Lab into their program and help him continue building confidence while experiencing the security he has been missing.
If your rescue can help Pluto, please reach out. This gentle soul deserves the chance to blossom into the amazing companion we know he can be.
Pluto is up to date on vaccines and will be tested for heartworm.

Weeble: 6 Week Old CH Kitten Needs Rescue!
Weeble Needs Rescue 6 Weeks Old Meet Weeble, a 6-week-old kitten in need of rescue. Transferred into our care from another shelter, Weeble was diagnosed with Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH), a neurological condition that affects balance and coordination.
Fortunately, Weeble's CH is mild, and she doesn't let it slow her down. She is a happy, playful, and affectionate kitten who enjoys all the typical kitten activities. However, because of her coordination challenges, she is still learning to consistently use the litterbox and will likely need some extra patience, support, and accommodations as she continues to grow and develop.
Despite this hurdle, Weeble is otherwise a healthy kitten with a bright future ahead of her. We are hopeful that a dedicated rescue can provide the understanding environment she needs to thrive and continue building her confidence.
If your rescue is able to help Weeble, please reach out.

Help Rex Find His Family
Meet Rex, a handsome 4yr old, 22-pound Terrier Mix who is looking for a fresh start and a family to call his own.
Rex was surrendered to the shelter through no fault of his own when his previous owner was no longer able to care for him.
Rex has already shown us what a sweet and gentle soul he is. He can be a little shy and unsure when faced with new people, places, and experiences, but with patience and kindness, his true personality begins to shine. Rex is looking for a calm, understanding home where he can take things at his own pace and learn that the world can be a safe place.
Rex is reported to do well with children and other dogs. His compatibility with cats is currently unknown. As with any new pet, slow and proper introductions to resident pets and family members are recommended to help set everyone up for success.
He is also currently learning the basics of house training. With consistency, structure, and positive reinforcement, we believe Rex will continue making great progress.
What Rex needs most is someone willing to give him a chance, who will see beyond his initial shyness and help him build confidence. In return, you'll gain a loyal companion who simply wants a place where he feels safe, secure, and loved.
🏡 Rex is ready to leave shelter life behind and become part of a family once again. Could your rescue or home be the happy ending he's been waiting for?
Rex is up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative.

Bones Is Searching for His Pack
Bones is a 2-year-old, 88-pound Shepherd who came to the shelter as a stray and was left unclaimed. He arrived in heartbreaking condition, with a collar embedded in his neck.
This big boy is full of energy and love. Bones doesn't quite realize how large he is, but his sweet personality shines through. He loves playing with balls and squeaky toys, which help keep him entertained, and he already knows "sit." More than anything, Bones wants to be with his people and is eager to please.
Bones would benefit from some basic training to help him channel his enthusiasm, as he can be excitable at times. Unfortunately, he is not thriving in the shelter environment. The small, chaotic kennels are difficult for him, and the stress of shelter life is beginning to take its toll.
We are urgently seeking a rescue partner for Bones. He needs a quiet home environment where he can decompress, feel safe, and show everyone what a wonderful companion he can be. With patience, structure, and love, Bones has all the potential to become an incredible dog.
If your rescue can help Bones, please contact us today!
Bones is up to date on vaccines and will be tested for heartworm.

My Dad would have been 101 years old on the 1st. He was wonderful person, an open-hearted humanitarian, and as much as he wouldn't admit it, a dog lover, who cared about his family always. He was born and bred Brooklyn NY, who would have DESPISED Trump and his regime. I miss him every day.
Help Bane & Fenrir Find Their Forever Home!!! - Baltimore, MD
Help Bane & Fenrir Find Their Forever Home!!! - Baltimore, MD
Bane: altered male, 1yo, 67.4lbs
Fenrir: altered male, 1yo, 69lbs
Bane and Fenrir came to BARCS as owner surrenders on 6/1 after being left behind by their owner's former partner a year ago. These brothers are friendly, energetic dogs who are looking for a rescue partner willing to help them channel their enthusiasm and settle into a stable environment.
Both dogs have lived successfully with cats and another large dog in the home. Their former family described them as playful, affectionate, housetrained, and full of energy. While they can be reactive toward some larger dogs on leash, they have a history of coexisting comfortably with small dogs and have generally social personalities.
Bane is a happy, outgoing dog who loves toys, walks, and water adventures. He has done well with children and enjoys interactive play. In the shelter, Bane's excitement and stress have shown up as jumping, mouthing, and frantic leash pulling. He can be sensitive to handling around his head and neck and becomes overwhelmed in the shelter environment. During his dog assessment, he initially appeared stressed and disengaged but gradually relaxed and participated appropriately with time and breaks.
Fenrir is similarly active and enthusiastic but tends to display his stress through anxious behavior and sensitivity around his neck and collar area. During his dog assessment, he offered polite greetings and showed appropriate social skills, especially with gentle dogs. Although initially cautious and appeasing with more assertive dogs, he became more comfortable over time and demonstrated calm coexistence and helper-dog qualities.
Both dogs appear healthy with no current signs of illness or injury.
These brothers have already experienced significant upheaval in their lives. With structure, exercise, and patient guidance, Bane and Fenrir have the potential to become wonderful companions.
A full medical summary can be provided upon request.
Thank you,

Pashi: 5 Month Old Puppy Needs Rescue!
Pashi Needs Rescue 5 Months, 16lbs
Meet Pashi, a 5-month-old puppy in need of rescue. Found abandoned and brought into our care, little is known about his history, but it’s clear that this young pup has already endured more than his share of hardship.
Upon intake, staff noticed that Pashi was walking with a limp. Further diagnostics revealed a cruciate ligament tear as well as fractures to his 3rd, 4th, and 5th metacarpals. While he is currently being kept comfortable, his treatment plan will require several weeks of strict crate rest and may ultimately involve surgical intervention.
Despite these injuries, Pashi has remained an incredibly bright, happy, and resilient puppy. He greets everyone he meets with enthusiasm, loves attention, and is always eager to play and interact with staff and volunteers. His affectionate personality and zest for life shine through even during recovery.
Pashi is looking for a dedicated rescue partner willing to provide the medical support and rehabilitation he needs. With the right care and a chance to heal, this sweet pup has all the potential to grow into a wonderful lifelong companion.
Pashi is not yet neutered but will be neutered prior to transfer.
