Corsair: unaltered male, 3yo, 129lbs

Corsair came to BARCS on 7/28 after his owner was arrested, leaving him suddenly without the home and routine he knew. Since arriving at the shelter, this sweet and energetic boy has been trying to adjust to a very stressful environment.

Corsair's biggest challenges have been related to frustration, excitement, and confinement. In the shelter environment, Corsair has displayed high-arousal behaviors including pulling strongly on leash, jumping on handlers, and occasional mouthing when overstimulated or when treats are involved. He has also shown signs of confinement distress, including vocalizing, heavy panting, and difficulty transitioning back to his kennel after time outside.

During dog interactions, Corsair had minimal engagement with the male helper dog. He displayed loose body language but was noted to become fixated and attempt to mount female dogs. Due to his tendency to become highly aroused, dog introductions should be handled thoughtfully and monitored closely.

Corsair is a young dog who experienced a major life change and is now struggling with the stress of shelter life. He needs a rescue partner who can provide structure, patience, enrichment, and the opportunity to decompress outside of a kennel setting. With the right support, Corsair can continue learning how to navigate the world around him and find the stability he lost.

Corsair is currently being treated for an ear infection in both ears but appears otherwise healthy.

Give Ambrose a Fresh Start Today!!! - Baltimore, MD

Ambrose: unaltered male, 3yo, 14.41lbs

Ambrose came to BARCS on 7/15 with multiple puncture wounds and bite injuries of unknown origin. He arrived needing medical care and a safe place to recover, and since then, he has made tremendous progress. His wounds have healed, his conjunctivitis has resolved, and he no longer requires any medical treatment.

Now that his physical recovery is behind him, Ambrose is ready for the next step: finding a rescue partner to help him leave shelter life behind. He is a social, affectionate dog who enjoys spending time with people and has shown a resilient spirit throughout his stay.

In dog interactions, Ambrose showed sexually motivated mounting behavior with female dogs and generally avoided male dogs. He was not always responsive to communication from other dogs, so introductions and interactions should be thoughtfully managed and supervised. With guidance and structure, Ambrose has the potential to continue building positive social skills.

After overcoming a difficult start, Ambrose is ready for a fresh beginning. He has done the hard work of healing and is looking for a rescue willing to see his potential and give him the opportunity to thrive in a home environment.

Help Subnautica's Road to Recovery!!! - Baltimore, MD

Subnautica: unaltered male, 4m, 39.8lbs

Subnautica came to BARCS on 8/1 after being hit by a car. Despite the trauma he has experienced, this young puppy has remained incredibly sweet and gentle with staff as he receives care.

In addition to extensive road rash and bruising, Subnautica has instability in both of his knees, raising concerns for significant orthopedic injuries. He will need a full orthopedic examination and likely sedated radiographs to determine the extent of his injuries and the treatment he will require moving forward. At this time, it is expected that he will need additional medical care beyond what the shelter can provide.

Through it all, Subnautica has shown everyone what a resilient and loving puppy he is. He deserves the opportunity to recover in a rescue placement where his injuries can be fully assessed and treated.
