Kyoshi was taking a night walk in the earthbending academy she was visiting. The academy had actually paid Kyoshi a large sum, which she gave to her island, to make a presence and boost moral among the students.
Kyoshi scowled at the girls cowardice, but she was not discouraged. She walked down until she found a door that was not bolted shut. It was slightly ajar and she could see a light flickering inside. In a step, she was to the door and slowly entered, the door creaking slightly. The young woman inside turned towards the intrusion. She was sitting alone at a desk, reading a blue covered book by candlelight. "Hello," she called out. Recognition flashed in her eyes, but she did not stand or cower like her colleagues. She sat there, with her book in hand, watching. There was something about her that Kyoshi respected.
The warrior took a step forward, nearly crossing the room as she did so. "Do you mind if I sat and read with you?" She was beginning to feel fatigued from her walk, why not visit this student and rest. "Um. Ok." The girl waited a second then shuffled her chair over and reaching over to place a stool next to her. Kyoshi took her seat at the stool, still towering over the student.
"What is your name, Little one?" Another pause. "Wong."
"Pleased to make your acquaintance, Wong." Kyoshi asked her about the book she was reading, and then the subject changed to the school, her classes, then it shifted to a more personal level. Her family, her siblings. Kyoshi shared as well, telling Wong of her upbringing by her father who pushed her to be the best, and to be something that she didn't feel like being, but she still loved her father even after he died.
Time passed and it was well into the night. They were reading the book together, Kyoshi edging her way along the pages, while Wong waited patiently for her to finish. When She was done, she waited for the student to turn the page, but this time she did not. Kyoshi looked over at the young woman, and noticed her eyes were closed. She had dozed off. The side of kyoshi's lips curled, and she gently picked up the woman and carried her to the bed and pulling the blanket around her. She reminded Kyoshi of her own daughter that she had left behind at the Island. She leaned down to move a strand of hair that had fallen into the sleeping woman's face. "Good night little one."
