It’s strange being homesick for a place that no longer exists. For years, I visited this decrepit old house on the backside of Casper Mountain, poking through the rubble and wanting to know its history. I watched it fall further and further into itself, my earliest memory of it being a trip with my family in 2006 when we saw it from a hillside a small distance away. Back then, it was still partially standing. Year after year, I returned to this place, whiling away my time, wondering why it was left to fall down and rot over the years and wanting to know how long it had been alone. It quickly became one of the first places I would visit with each coming spring and every time I got a new camera I would drive up to test them out on it. I still remember the year that I was a little sad when it lost its last standing wall and became nothing more than a roof on a foundation, but I still continued to make special trips up the mountain just  to see it. 

And then one day in 2013, I returned to visit it only to find that it was gone. There was nothing but a pile of rubble and a bald spot in the plains where it once stood.
